Why Is Three Wheeled Buggies So Popular?
Three Wheeled Buggies
If you're seeking a buggy to run with or just a compact stroller for strolls around the neighborhood, three-wheeled buggies provide great mobility. Their compact design makes them easy to manoeuvre even in tight areas.
For an easy ride, opt for a pram fitted with air-filled tyres. Also, look for models with 360deg front swivel wheels. They are, however, susceptible to punctures. Be prepared with a repair set.
Sturdy frame
The latest figures have been released showing that the three-wheeled buggy - that noughties symbol of more money than wisdom is on the verge of disappearing. Four-wheelers are replacing them, and are more versatile and easier to drive and look elegant.
The bigger the wheels are, the better your buggy will cope with uneven surfaces and bumpy pavements. The larger wheels, both front and rear, make it easier to maneuver and more stable when walking downhill or over difficult terrain.
MFM reviewer Kath tried this buggy out with a newborn as well as a 3 year old and found that it coped well with grass, cobbles, rough roads, dirt tracks and kerbs. Kath wrote "it is sturdy to push and extremely solid when you're on rough terrain. Its tyres (which are inflatable, so require occasionally pumping) come with suspension built-in that was very comfortable for my kids.
Another thing to take into consideration is the size of the seat and shape. It is important for the seat to be large enough for your child to be comfortable and allow them to lie down. Some three-wheel buggies offer the option of lying flat, which allows your child to lie flat and face you, while other buggies only allow a face-to-parent one.
An excellent option for taking on off-road or muddy walks is the Roma Atlas. This buggy is suitable for a single child as early as birth and can be adjusted to accommodate two children as your family grows. It is suitable for babies and toddlers from age 4 and includes a bumper bar, raincover, an improved 5-point harness and a spacious cushioned seat unit. Storage options are also good with a large basket, zip pockets on the hood and an extra pouch at the rear of seat unit.
Larger wheels
Larger wheels will give your buggy more stability when driving on rough terrain. This is perfect for buggies that are off-road. Additionally, they allow you to maneuver the pushchair through narrow spaces. Many three wheeled buggies feature the front wheels that swivel to aid you in maneuvering around tight corners, whereas others are designed for running and have fixed front wheels that lock to increase the speed and stability at which they can be driven. This also helps if you bump into the roots of a tree or stray curb, since the front wheel can be lifted up to keep you from hitting it.
A lot of 3 wheel pushchairs have air-filled tyres. This means they can be used on a variety of terrains and are far more flexible than 4-wheeler. They are also lighter. They are also more susceptible to punctures, so you'll require a repair kit and spare inner tube on hand.
Mountain Buggy Core, Venicci Carbo and the Venicci Carbo lux are some of our favourite 3-wheelers. According to MFM's Kath, have larger wheels that she claims "perform well on gravel roads, grass and market town cobbles" and are able to move up and down kerbs. They also have a suspension system that in her words "smoothes out bumps with great efficiency".
Buggies with bigger wheels can be quite wide, and they may be a challenge to fit into narrow spaces. This can be an issue when you're using it for an exercise bike or to be able to get through narrow doorways when out and about. Many models have compact folding options, which permit you to take off the front wheels and store them in a more compact manner.
Easy to Manoeuvre
One of the major advantages to a three-wheeled buggy is that it's much more maneuverable, especially with a child on the way. three wheel pushchair are constructed means that the front wheels rotate at a whim and are incredibly maneuverable which makes them perfect for tricky terrain like cobbles, parks and bumpy pavements as well as dirt tracks.
MFM reviewer Kath tried a 3-wheeler with her toddler and newborn and wrote: "The Terrain was a delight to maneuver on the ground and the swivel front wheel being particularly helpful. I was also amazed by the way it dealt with kerbs using the hand-operated break. I found it extremely stable when driving downhill or over uneven ground."
The only downside of this great mobility is that the 3 wheel buggy's larger wheels do sometimes mean that it will struggle in tight spaces - something to be aware of when you live in a metropolitan region. If this is a problem, a 4-wheeled buggy may be the better option for you.
